Kent Parents

Edward Rawson '32

Ed was a five year student at Kent. His parents owned Ravenscroft Farm on Skiff Mountain. The MacGlashan family (Archibald ’22, Don ’49, and Archie ’45) also owned property on Skiff Mountain. When Don and Archie MacGlashan’s grandmother remarried, Clementine Rawson (Ed’s mother) purchased her (MacGlashan’s) farm. Ed and his sister, Priscilla Young, sold the land to Kent School which then became the Girls’ School. After graduating from Harvard and Yale Law School, Ed had a career with the United States World Federalist Association. Ed’s son is a 1964 graduate of Kent. Ed’s sister, Priscilla was the wife of Henry Melvin Young ’32 who obtained a Doctorate at Oxford University, distinguished himself as a rower in a 1938 win over Cambridge University, and was killed while serving as a squadron leader in the RAF’s bombing raids on the Ruhr Dams in Germany, a raid not much known in the U.S. but which occupies the same position in the folklore of British aviation as the Doolittle raid on Tokyo does in America.
